Once upon a time, there was a great horned beast that roamed the countryside. Depending on where you lived, that great horned beast could have been anything, coming from anywhere. No one ever really had a single “great horned beast” just lying about. And “great” could really mean a few different things depending on where you lived, as well. In the reaches of Scotland, for example, there was a fantastic creature fabled to have interacted with the Celtic tribes of old who glowed like fireflies and protected the tribe when it could. It spoke in cryptic riddles about changing the course of time, when asked for reasons why it didn’t prevent catastrophe. But somewhere in an open field, where quiet and subdued flowers hid among the long grasses, there was a large creature who was said to have been still for so long that mushrooms and moss had begun to grow along its back, frilling out towards the sky rather than fanning from a log. The shrublands were a quiet place for the most part - at least these days, it was. Back when Jackal was alive was an entirely different story. You could have been shot for any reason at all, really.
